7 Days Kenya and Tanzania Fly-in Migration Safari

Description

7 Days Kenya and Tanzania Fly-in Migration Safari

Embark on a Kenya and Tanzania fly-in migration safari, exploring two iconic safari destinations in East Africa. Depending on the time of year, you may witness the migration in one or both areas, positioned perfectly for an opportunity to witness a famed river crossing. Driving between the Masai Mara and the Serengeti is lengthy and exhausting, leaving little time for wildlife viewing. To optimize your experience in these remarkable areas, flying in is the preferred option.

Detailed Itinerary

pon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) you will be met by Signature Safaris’ representative and drive you to your accommodation in Nairobi for overnight stay waiting for your adventures to start on the following day.

Destination: Nairobi City

Accommodation: Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Nairobi

Meal plan: Bed & Breakfast

After breakfast, you'll be transferred to the domestic airport for a light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara. Upon landing in the Masai Mara, a representative will be there to greet you and accompany you to your safari camp, where you'll spend the next three nights. Your accommodation, Basecamp Masai Mara, is a cozy camp nestled along the Talek River amidst lush forest, offering plenty of opportunities to observe the abundant birdlife and occasional monkeys. Safari adventures from here venture into the renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, known for its exceptional wildlife sightings, despite being one of the busier parts of the Mara.

Destination: Masai Mara National Reserve

Accommodation: Base Camp Masai Mara Camp

Meal plan: Full Board (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

After breakfast, we embark on a full-day game drive with a packed lunch provided. The reserve is renowned for its black-maned lions and abundant resident wildlife, and it's one of the few places where you can spot the Big Five during a morning game drive. Many cheetahs in the reserve are so accustomed to vehicles that they often seek shade beneath them and occasionally climb onto the roofs for a better view of potential prey. Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that almost 500 species have been recorded here, including 16 species of eagles, numerous hawks and falcons, 6 species of vultures, 8 species of storks, 4 species of bustards (including the Kori bustard, the world's heaviest flying bird), and 9 species of sunbirds.

Following breakfast, you'll be transferred to the airstrip for your flight across the border into Tanzania and to the Serengeti. While some operators may propose driving this leg, it would result in an excessively long day, leaving no opportunity for wildlife viewing as you'd spend the entire time on the road. Opting for a flight ensures you make the most of your short time on safari.
Your accommodation for the next two nights is Lemala Kuria Hills, a tented lodge nestled in the northern Serengeti. This area of the Serengeti receives fewer visitors compared to other regions, yet boasts exceptional year-round wildlife sightings. Moreover, there's a chance of witnessing the Great Migration between July and September, and possibly in November as well.

Destination: Serengeti National Park

Accommodation: Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge

Meal plan: All-Inclusive

As you crest the hillside, the vast Serengeti unfolds before you, stretching as far as the eye can see. Serengeti, meaning "endless plains" in Kiswahili, spans 6,900 square miles (18,000 square km) and is home to over two million large animals, including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, and Thomson's gazelles. Large predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are drawn to the area by the abundance of prey migrating throughout the park. Numerous smaller animals, including rock hyraxes, bat-eared foxes, mongooses, honey badgers, jackals, monkeys, baboons, and African hares, also inhabit this diverse ecosystem, along with nearly 500 species of birds.
You'll enjoy an afternoon game drive en route to the campsite. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at a public campsite or private tented camp/lodge.
